Not so very long ago, two little girls played with their Barbies, creating worlds of fun, fashion and fabulousness. As the exploits and outfits of Barbie, Skipper and Ken rambled on, a dream started to grow. A Dream of rolling hills, denim, rusty steel.
Enter, the Mercantile Shop. No, no, no that’s way too cheesy.
Reality:
We (Kelly Ferris and Monica Schweiger) have known each other since the schoolyard age of 8. Admired each other’s style highs over the years. Picture multi-colored Esprit casual play sets, velcro Reeboks with no less than 2 Rainbow Bright colored socks (per foot mind you). Monica coveted Kelly’s absolutely perfect Snowball bangs (seriously, they were amazing). Kelly with hair that would make the Bangles green with envy secretly coveted Monica’s uncanny ability to pull together rather seemingly clashing pieces into a pretty rad ensemble (still the 80’s, enough said).
Flash forward to the present day 2012:
These childhood friends all grown up, style refined. Having moved from Manhattan Beach, to New York City, to *gasp!* Brooklyn, end up back in LA and now finally land in Heaven (aka Healdsburg). Here the Mercantile Shop will soon became more than just a figment of the imagination. A very simple concept, “Stuff we like. Goods you need”
